Because we know that diverse schools are the most successful schools, because all children benefit from diverse environments, and because all children are entitled to a quality education, we are committed to building a student body that is intentionally diverse. This diversity will include socioeconomic diversity.
Rather than setting tuition at a regular amount and then offering financial aid to a small portion of our student body, we will build socioeconomic diversity by allowing every family at Tampa Bay International School to pay an amount in tuition that is in equitable proportion to its financial resources.
Our tuition is based on a gradually increasing percentage of a family’s gross (before taxes) annual household income. This table shows the likely tuition ranges for the 2020-2021 school year based on family income. While income determines a family’s likely tuition range, there are many factors that may determine a family’s exact tuition amount.
These factors may include:
- The number of dependents in a household
- A family’s financial liabilities
- The financial needs of Tampa Bay International School
- The enrollment needs of Tampa Bay International School
Our Application Process
Tampa Bay International School seeks to enroll 20-25 students in grades K-5 during its inaugural year.
Our first enrollment period will begin on January 2, 2020 and end at midnight on February 1, 2020.
Applications received during this period may be conditionally accepted for enrollment if the amount of applications we receive does not exceed the amount of space available at a particular grade level.
Additionally, our mission to create a socioeconomically diverse student body will influence our decision in offering conditional acceptance to a student. We will strive to have representation from families across the socioeconomic spectrum at our school while at the same time, we balance this integral component of our mission with our need to be financially sustainable. The number of families paying lower tuition amounts that we will be able to enroll will depend on our overall economic needs, in addition to the number of families paying higher tuition amounts that we are able to accept to our school. It is in large part the philanthropy of our higher tuition paying families that will make our model sustainable.
Conditional acceptance will additionally be offered to:
- Families who have submitted completed and signed applications.
- Families who have indicated on their applications the specific way(s) in which they will volunteer throughout the school year for a stipulated number of hours.
- Families who submit a tax return from the previous two years if they wish to pay less than the maximum amount of tuition - $12,500 – as verification of household income. Information shared on tax returns is kept confidential. Families wishing to pay the maximum amount of $12,500 are not required to submit tax returns.
If by the end of our first enrollment period, on February 1, 2020, we have received an excess of applications for a grade level, we will hold a lottery to randomly determine enrollees for that grade level.
Students selected for admission during the lottery will also receive conditional acceptance, based on the same criteria previously listed.
If a student who is selected in our lottery has a sibling or siblings who have also been entered into our lottery, those siblings will automatically receive conditional acceptance.
The children of faculty, staff, and Tampa Bay International School board members will receive preference in selection during enrollment. Families who were previously admitted to Tampa Bay International School during our 2019 application period will also receive preference in selection.
Tampa Bay International School will admit students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin, and sexual orientation to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin, or sexual orientation in administration of its educational or admissions policies.
No later than February 14, 2020, Tampa Bay International School will offer contracts with exact tuition amounts to the families of all students who have been conditionally accepted as the inaugural students for the 2020-2021 school year. Families will be able to secure their places in our inaugural class by paying a $50 registration fee (this fee may be waived for families paying lower tuition amounts) as well as a non-refundable deposit equal to 10% of their annual tuition. The balance of a child’s tuition may be paid over the course of the school year through a regular payment plan beginning on August 1, 2020, or in one lump sum at any time.
Students not offered contracts either following our first enrollment period or our lottery (if necessary) will be placed on a waiting list, the order of which will also be randomly assigned. Waitlisted students will be sent invitations to apply as student slots become open.
If following our enrollment period and our lottery (if necessary) our school has not met its enrollment targets, we will initiate a second open enrollment period, commencing on February 15, 2020. Students applying for admission during this period will be considered for enrollment and offered contracts on a rolling admission, first-come first-served basis until our capacity is reached.
